Keeping Your Colon HealthyBy Jeanette Joyce, with Karen Larré There are several factors critical to overall colon health. A high-fiber, whole-food diet (lots of vegetables, fruits and grains) protects, nourishes and cleanse the colon – and organic foods provide nutrition without adding the toxic pesticides. A high level of friendly bacteria or probiotics and a healthy mucosal lining inside the gut defend against toxins and bacteria. Regular waste elimination and muscle tone in the gut walls pushes wastes out of the body; and an intact, well-functioning autonomic nervous system regulates and oversees gut function. Years of toxic living through environmental toxins, alcohol, prescription drugs and poor eating habits can poison the body without our knowing it. The colon must be cleansed regularly due to normal retention of fecal toxins and debris, which, if retained in the colon, escape into the blood and burden the liver, lymphatics, kidneys and most other organ systems. The CleanseA colon cleanse, also known as a colonic or colon hydrotherapy, introduces filtered water into the rectum with a sterilized, single-use speculum. The water and loosened fecal matter and debris are excreted and the colon can now repair and/or heal. Several colon-cleansing sessions will clean the entire 5 feet of colon. Who Benefits?Virtually anyone interested in optimizing their health will benefit from having their colon cleansed regularly. It is particularly helpful for people who regularly consume meat and/or processed foods and/or toxic substances. It is also highly recommended for anyone suffering from a disease or chronic health condition. |
